The VLS cross-flow filters for the South African market

Case studies / July 2019

Botha Kelder, founded in 1949, is one of the main wineries in South Africa, processing about 40,000 tons of grapes a year.

Always devoted to a high quality wine production and several times awarded for their Pinotage, Sauvignon Blanc and Merlot on the main international contests (http://bothakelder.co.za/awards/), they are characterized for constantly looking for up to date technological solutions.

Botha Kelder have chosen VLS Technologies for the installation of a cross flow filter with Stainless Steel membranes for treating flotation lees and tanks’ bottoms.
The purpose is reaching all the advantages coming from replacing the traditional filtration with rotary drum filters: eliminating the costs of the filtration aids and the labour for setting, inspectioning and operating the filter during the process; adding the possibility to work automatically and continuously.

The TLS 6 filter is based on the cross flow technology to which it adds the use of 6 membranes in AISI316 Stainless steel instead of organic or ceramic material; in this way it can ensure the reliability coming from the resistance of the material from a mechanical, thermal and chemical point of view.

The filter is also provided with remote control from laptop or smartphone. VLS realised then some customization to offer a bespoke solution to the Company.
