Caveau Bugiste and VLS Technologies: pneumatic presses for premium French wines

Case studies / July 2017

Caveau Bugiste  celebrates 50 years of commitment and passion; it is a small but prestigious French winery which have become an economical driving force for all the wine producers of the Bugey. The winery celebrated its half a century life with a new installation of vinification tank and with pneumatic wine presses supplied by VLS Technologies which will be operating from the next 2017 harvest.

Caveau Bugiste equip themselves with 3 new pneumatic wine presses installed by our French distributor Viti-Agri based in Serrières-de-Briord. VLS Technologies supplied a PSA 30 press (open drum press, 30 hl), a PSA50 (open drum press, 50 hl) and a PSC 50 (closed drum press, 50 hl). All the presses come with washing system and PLC which can manage all the pressing phases automatically. The director Yannick Piaser and his collaborator Laurent Fusillet explain: “These machines have a PLC that the customer can program according to their needs”.

Thanks to the pneumatic press, grape pressing happens in a mild and progressive way and the skins are not subjected to an excessive pressure. This guarantees to only extract the most noble part which makes it so the wine won’t get an aggressive herbal flavour. After commissioning the presses, Caveau Bugiste can depend on François Denneulin, VLS’ French agent, for an efficient and quick after sales service. Francois and Giuseppe Benacchio, VLS Technologies’ Area Manager for France, are confident that “this year on the vinification tanks of Caveau Bugiste the wine will be a perfect must!”.

HISTORY AND PRODUCTION

The winery produces high quality French wines, red, white, rosé and sparkling such as the AOC (Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée that corresponds to Italian “Denominazione di Origine Controllata”) Chardonnay Cuvée Vieilles Vignes, Symphonie rosé, Manicle cuvée de la Truffière, Machuraz Blanc. Moreover, Caveau Bugiste is a lighthouse for wine tourism and they are able to attract over thirty thousand visitors per year. This French region is located between Lione and Ginevra on a bend of the Rodano river, very well-known both for beautiful landscapes and for wine production. Among the wines of the Bugey region the most well-known are the Cerdon, similar to a natural framboise champagne and the Montagnieu, an excellent sparkling wine.

“Half a year for a ling and beautiful history” states Eric Angelot, President of the Bugey Wine Union. A partly familiar history built over André and Jean Chaudet, and, from the third generation, Yannick Chaudet e Clément Metge. With the Chaudet, in 1967, Henri Guillon, Louis Michaud, Paul Pinet, Raymond Prémillieu created this winegrowing model which nowadays includes 45 cultivated hectars with 10 full time workers. The winery has further developed a brave investment policy through the years; that allowed them to go from 14000 to almost 400000 bottle per year without altering the quality of the wine.
